A Recipe For Christmas All Year Long
I dedicate this short poem to all those willing to read it, Christians and non-Christians alike, in hopes they will remember that in this life everything is finite, temporary and ephemeral.

As Earth spins, so we spin through time
we are each, in the end, destined to turn pure
no being is Being, yet by being we are
open those seams and you see only light.
Now here is a recipe that I think it's just fine
only need to find a pot, wood for fire and some time
get a little parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
then gently dump in a big can of peas.
After which take a heap of child-like wonder
so as to make us open up our eyes
in front of the unexpected gifts in life
that make each day for us a surprise.
Then mix in a dose of fond appreciation
for all the people whom we know
because just like festive Christmas candles
each one of them has a special glow.
Take a cup of tradition time-honoured and dear
add a generous portion of holiday cheer
then sprinkle the blend with joy unsurpassed
and set it to rise until the steam comes by past.
Then add some giggles with a little laughter
and also a dash of fine Christmas food
it is amazing how a piece of pie
can wholly improve our soul and mood.
Now warm it up with human kindness
and wrap it up in love and peace
then decorate it with some optimism
so that our joy will never cease.
The table is spread and the kettle is shined
and over the rafters the holly is twined
the wind whistles sharp and the branches are brown
but serenity, peace and contentment abound.
Hear now the sledges coming by with the bells
and the world of joy their melody foretells
hear how they tinkle and tinkle and tinkle
whilst all the stars in the Heavens seem to twinkle.
The meaning of Christmas is to all now so clear
it represents all that's to us very dear
it does unite all the world around
with its melodic and merry sound.
Thus if we use this healthy recipe now
I'm so sure we will know ever how to remember
to be always cheerful and in the Christmas spirit
even the time when it is not December.
